Homeopathy stimulates our natural healing processes by the use of micro-dosage medicines that closely match the specific, unique manner in which each of us responds to illnesses that we present with. Let us consider a common example, allergy. Individuals having allergy present with a range of conflicting symptoms. Their associated characteristics also vary in many ways, including the type of sneezing, the form of eruption, if any, what gives relief, or what aggravates the condition. Some individuals with allergy may have a burning sensation, or fiery rash, but would possibly desire, or feel better by, warmth — perhaps, a hot cup of coffee!
Homeopathy suggests that symptoms are the body’s warning signs and failed attempts to restore balance, harmony, health and well-being. Homeopathy takes each of them into consideration to select the closest remedy that will, for the most part, fit the remedy picture — of the medicine that can cause the same condition in health — and, enhance the given individual’s unique response to the offender, or pathogen, associated with allergy. From the homeopathic standpoint, 15-20 different individuals with allergy, as we have often seen at Dr Batra’s Clinic, may need as many homeopathic remedies — to treat the specific, characteristic reaction that their body produces.
When conventional medical researchers attempt to evaluate the clinical efficacy of homeopathy, it is typically subject to the conventional medical model. This is erroneous; not rational. Because, one or two homeopathic medicines cannot be prescribed to dozens, or hundreds, of patients with the same diagnosis, with no thought given to the unique, different manifestations of the process of illness in each individual, or how each person reacts in health and illness.
An article published in the respected conventional medical journal, The Lancet, analyzed 185 studies. It concluded that the clinical effects of homeopathy are not simply placebo, or dummy pill, effect. A study published in Microvascular Research, another conventional medical journal, analyzed the microcirculatory effects of a homeopathic preparation, using advanced vital microscopy techniques. After 12 weeks of treatment, patients receiving a homeopathic preparation exhibited improvement in all parameters measured. A more recent, highly advanced study completed in South Africa also showed a statistically significant improvement in treatment outcomes in patients managed with individually selected homeopathic medicines.

The air in an airplane is never fresh. It is constantly recycled. This tends to dehydrate us while desiccating the skin.

At high altitudes, a person can actually feel as if s/he is in a desert with dry itchy skin, chapped lips, parched throat, and generalized uneasiness, along with headache, earache, and abdominal fullness or bloating.

It is important to avoid alcohol and beverages like tea or coffee that tend to induce frequent urination by virtue of their diuretic properties. Similarly, foods that are loaded with sugar or fat should be avoided to prevent abdominal discomfort.
Hydrate well.

Drinking plenty of water and moisturizing the skin by the use of body lotion is a good way of preventing the loss of moisture from the skin.

Another way out is the use of a mist atomizer. Although plain bottled water is good enough, infusions with essential oils are even better, because these help to soothe the nerves. Hydrating mist moisturizes the skin and keeps the traveler feeling refreshed all the time.

When the nostrils become tender due to an existing infection, petroleum jelly may be applied to coat them and also reduce the soreness.

Walking up and down the aisle at regular intervals, stretching out when seated, changing one’s posture, moving one’s arms and legs, and wiggling one’s toes and fingers often help to maintain proper blood circulation — this will also help to prevent the formation of blood clots in the veins. It keeps the skin well oxygenated.

When a person, who has a fresh deep wound that has just been dressed or undergone surgery, boards a flight immediately, atmospheric pressure changes can cause bleeding to recur and hamper the healing process.

It’s ideal for such individuals to speak/consult their surgeon before boarding the airplane.
It is also advisable for patients with a history of skin allergies, as we suggest at Dr Batra’s Clinic, to carry a summary of their medical history. This is helpful to pre-empt, avoid, or treat an allergic response in the altered environment, or taking certain food or drink while on-board.
Healing with Homeopathy

Homeopathic medicines are useful prophylactically as well as therapeutically for in-flight skin and other health problems.

Arsenicum Album and Coca are two pre-eminent remedies that have been successfully used in the prevention and treatment of complaints at high altitudes.

Bronchiolitis is inflammation of the bronchioles, the smallest air passages of the lungs. This infection causes swelling (oedema) and obstruction of the airways. It is seen most commonly in the first two years of life. Older children and adults also contract the same infection, but they do not experience the same degree of airway obstruction. In fact, an older sibling, or a parent, is often the source of the infant's infection.

Bronchiolitis is often viral in origin. The typical course begins with the exposure of an infant to another person having an upper respiratory infection. The infant usually has symptoms for several days, with or without fever, along with gradual onset of respiratory distress, a raging wheezing cough and breathlessness. The temperature is often in the range of 101.3–102.2°F.

The most critical phase of bronchiolitis is the first 2–3 days of the illness. Most cases resolve in 1-3 days. However, in severe cases, symptoms may develop within hours and may be long-drawn-out.
It is possible for some parents to relate to brocholitis infection as asthma.
Asthma is uncommon in the first year of life. However, children who have had bronchiolitis are more likely to develop asthma later in life.

For children having congested wet cough, with breathing distress, Antimonium Tartaricum, as we’ve found at Dr Batra’s Clinic, is a useful remedy.

For cough with a burning sensation that feels better with warm liquids, Arsenicum Album is useful.
Coccus Cacti is useful in cough with stringy mucous. It also works in coughs that lead to vomiting.
Kali Bichromicum  is useful for a “horse-like” cough with yellow mucous. Pulsatilla is handy for yellow or green phlegm that is dry at night and wet during the day.

Another excellent remedy is Spongia Tosta for dry cough, relieved by warm liquids, or food.

Sore throat is a common problem in children. The problem is far from simple as appears on the surface.

Viruses cause a vast majority of throat infections. Many viruses cause pain and swelling of the throat.
Symptoms include a runny nose and congestion, irritation or redness of the eyes, cough, and hoarseness, soreness in the roof of the mouth, a skin rash, or diarrhoea. There may sometimes be difficulty in swallowing food/liquids. Children with viral infections may have a rising fever; they may also feel depressed. A high fever does not also necessarily mean that the child has a bacterial infection.

Soreness may affect the whole throat or specific areas such as the larynx, tonsils, adenoids, pharynx, or vocal chords.

This may include a dry mouth and throat discomfort on swallowing, an unpleasant taste in the mouth, bad breath, fatigue, and fever. They may have made worse by cold and damp, overuse of voice, passive smoking, food allergy, being run down, or emotional stress. If symptoms and loss of voice persist for more than 4-5 days, see your doctor.

Aconitum Napellus is useful during the initial onset of a sore throat. The symptoms come on suddenly, after exposure to cold air. There may be burning in the throat with redness, swelling and increased thirst.
For a red, inflamed throat with swollen tonsils, Apis Mellifica may be extremely useful. The condition gets aggravated by warm drinks and relieved by cold drinks or ice. You would think of this remedy when the throat hurts even while not swallowing. The throat may have a stinging pain.

For burning pain in the throat relieved by warm food or drinks and aggravated by cold food or drinks, Arsenicum Album is a suitable remedy. Belladonna works well for acute tonsillitis — also, in the early stages of other types of sore throat. The tonsils are visibly red. There is burning pain and a constant desire to swallow.

Ferrum Phosphoricum is often useful for acute tonsillitis. The infection begins gradually; the throat is red and swollen, especially in the morning. Painful swallowing relieved by cold applications is another key symptom. For those who experience a sensation of a stick in the throat, or when a sore throat begins after exposure to cold, Hepar Sulphuricum is an effective remedy.

Enlarged tonsils with a radiating pain to the ears on swallowing calls for the use of this medicine. When a child has sore throat that is worse on the left side, this medicine again indicated.

Meghana (16), visited Dr Batra’s Clinic for eczema — a problem which had troubled her for over eight years now. She was already on conventional treatment, which only offered her momentary relief. Her parents, realising the possible bad effects of steroidal creams were in search of a safe form of medical treatment for their daughter.

On her case-analysis, our homeopathic consultant at Dr Batra’s Clinic found that there was a strong family history of asthma on her mother’s side. He also traced the origin of her eczematous patches, a few days after the death of her paternal grandmother. She loved her grandmother immensely and now missed her badly.

The most affected area was her left ankle, with a few, new dry patches showing on her foot. The skin in that area was thick and dark because of constant itching. It was also reporting that her symptoms would increase during any change of weather or whenever she came in contact to dust.

Meghana also suffered from headache whenever she used to go out in the sun; she also complained of constipation. Her mother added that she had a habit of adding salt to all the food that she ate and asked if we could treat this problem as well. Yes, homeopathy can!

Meghana was the second child in the family; she was not expressive of her emotions. According to her mother, it was difficult to know what was going on in her mind. Her elder sister said that whenever she remembered her grandmother, she would cover her face with a pillow and cry. She did not like anyone seeing her cry. During case-analysis, her mother did most of the talking.

The attending homeopathic doctor at Dr Batra’s Clinic put her on an appropriate homeopathic medicine. It did not take long for her family members to notice palpable improvement in her nature. Slowly, she started mixing and sharing her problems with her elder sister. In about four months, Meghana was able to stop her steroidal cream; there was also good improvement in the new patches. At the end of one year of treatment, the formation of new patches was controlled; the itching and dryness too improved considerably. Meghana’s extra salt intake also reduced. Besides, the frequency and intensity of her headaches diminished too. Her bowel movements were now regular and normal.

Rajni (21), he was referred to us by one of her friends who felt better with Dr Batra’s homeopathic treatment.

Rajni, an extrovert, he was being slowly transformed into a reserved and depressed person, because of her acne (pimples) distress. During consultation, we found that Rajni started getting her painful pimples ever since she stepped into her teenage years . She had tried all sorts of home remedies with no result. She was presently on conventional treatment, which offered her no more than temporary relief. Worse still, her acne would resurface the moment she stopped taking her medicines. She was tired too of taking them and had lost all hope of sporting a blemishless face. The scars that remained behind started to undermine her self-confidence also.

Our homeopathic doctor at Dr Batra’s Clinic explained what acne was all about to her. He also said that her acne was a part of the hormonal changes that occur during puberty. Most often, the body is able to adjust and overcome these changes .Sometimes, the body is not able to do so and acne may continue to persist after adolescence. He also told her that she would require constitutional homeopathic treatment to assist the body to overcome these changes.

Rajni’s case study revealed that she was fond of pastries, spicy food and cold drinks. Her sleep was disturbed because of her concern with her acne spots. Her mother had also suffered from acne during her teens. Her friends told us that Rajni, a cheerful girl, was worried about her looks and used to cry oft and on. She depended on them to console her.

Besides acne, Rajni suffered from painful menses. She used to vomit and pass loose stools too at times. On examination, our doctor at Dr Batra’s found that she also suffered from dandruff.

Rajni was prescribed an appropriate homeopathic remedy. She was also counselled for her depression. Our in-house dietitian at Dr Batra’s prescribed a diet plan for her. She has advised to follow an appropriate skin care routine with Dr Batra’s skin care products and Dr Batra’s anti-dandruff shampoo.

In a span of 4-5 months, following homeopathic treatment at Dr Batra’s, the frequency of Rajni’s acne started to reduce, so also her menstrual distress. She soon became cheerful again. She could now sleep well. Her friends were also relieved, because her weeping spells were now outdated.

Vilas (37) first visited Dr Batra’s Clinic with a vexed expression, if not annoyance. He was distressed with his problem — alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder, in which the body attacks its own hair roots, causing hair loss in patches.

The origin of his complaint has traced to November 2009. It first started as a small patch in his beard. Initially, he “brushed it aside,” thinking that it was allergy. He also blamed it on kali-mehendi, or dye, or “quack” medication, which did not help him anyway. Over time, his hair loss worsened; it spread rapidly all over his scalp. He now began to use conventional treatment, but without relief.

It was at this point that he turned to homeopathy on a friend’s suggestion. Since he did not know much about homeopathy, he was wary of the results. “But, why not try,” he thought.
A detailed case-analysis revealed that Vilas was ambitious and irritable by nature. Being an executive, he had high stress levels. Apart from this, for a practical and fastidious person, he frequently indulged and took comfort in stimulants.

He has counselled about his problem and informed that there was no quick fix, and that patience would help. He has prescribed a suitable homeopathic medicine, based on his emotional and physical symptoms. He has also advised to practice stress-relieving techniques.

As the treatment progressed, the patches stopped expanding further. Vilas began gradually to get his hair back. He now began to develop faith, or belief, in homeopathy. He is grateful to Dr Batra's for giving him “hair-rising,” excellent results, and for bringing about a positive change in his confidence levels.
